Distance, travel time, and load all factor into the shipping rate
Freight Shipping Rates
Shippers use freight brokers because they can negotiate freight shipping
rates. Distance, travel time, and load all factor into the shipping rate
and as with any business. As with other businesses, the amount of
products purchased or shipping does make a difference. Freight brokers
understand this philosophy and many have established long term
relationships with numerous carriers who can save shippers both time and
money.
Manufacturers, who work with freight brokers, have a far better
possibility of getting their shipments delivered when and where they
need to be, and on time. Many times at a far better rate than those
companies who do not use freight brokers. The reason for this is the
broker can contact one thousands of potential carriers he has dealt with
to find the carrier who can best meet the shippers needs. The broker
then negotiates the lowest possible rate for the shipper. The broker can
do this because he has delivered sufficient enough volume business to
the carrier that the carrier can many times lower his rates.
By working with a freight broker, potential disasters can be eliminated.
Manufactures can keep the price of their goods down because carriers can
transport product at a reasonable rate. By working with freight brokers,
carriers are almost guaranteed that they will have loads and, probably,
a return load because the broker can arrange this as well. Finally, the
public benefits because the cost of the products remain low. When
carriers increase their rates, this increase is passed along onto the
consumer through by increasing the price of the goods.
