Drivers
There is a huge demand today for over the road (OTR) drivers because in
the United States the trucking industry is one of the fastest growing
industries, with an estimated five thousand new drivers needed yearly
for the next seven years. The ever-growing population and the increase
demand for more products have attributed to this need.
Truck drivers who transport loads across country are over the road (OTR)
drivers. They spend a considerable amount of time on the road, often
away from home and family for extended periods of time, and yet they
affect our daily lives. Practically everything we use in our homes or
offices are transported by trucks. It doesn't matter if it is across
town, or across the country, trucks affect our way of life.
There are a great many options available to today's drivers when it
comes to the trucking industry. Local deliveries have increasing in the
past five year to almost that of long distance hauls, creating the
opportunity for those individuals who would like steady pay and regular
hours.
If the open road sounds adventurous to you then you may be a good
candidate to become
an OTR. As an OTR you can work for a trucking company or you could
accept loads on a sub-contractor basis. You could purchase your own rig,
and become an independent owner operator driver, making your own
decisions.
