Brokers create value and
credibility
Freight Brokers
Freight brokers bring those needing to transport goods and those with
the ability to ship goods together insuring that the cargo is safely
shipped and arriving on time. Brokers negotiate the terms of individual
transaction between two parties, making sure that both are happy. The
broker also handles any special requirements concerning the cargo, like
refrigeration. Before an individual can become a broker and conduct
business, they must, study, train, acquiring a license. Brokers must be
knowledgeable about rates, distances, and insurance coverage. They have
to be able to help customers with all forms of transportation
transactions, land, air, and water.
Freight brokers do well in today's economy because approximately five
years ago many shipping and transportation department employees were
laid off when the economy
slowed down in the US. Freight brokers can often hire experienced
traffic managers.
Because of this, brokers have created value and credibility for carriers
and they have a tendency to negotiate harder for contracts that are
based on their specific expertise and connections.
